Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 5, 2026
FamilyPlate AI ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the FamilyPlate AI mobile application and website (together, the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Who Can Use FamilyPlate AI
FamilyPlate AI is intended for users 16 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. Each family member added to a household plan must be 16 or older and must consent to the collection of their information.
If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@familyplateai.com and we will delete it promptly.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: name, email address, password (stored hashed), and the household role you select.
- Family member profiles: name, age, daily calorie and macronutrient goals for each member you add.
- Food and nutrition data: photos of meals or ingredients, scanned barcodes, voice commands you record, recipes you save, meal plans, and shopping lists.
- Health and fitness inputs: weight, calorie burn, and activity goals you choose to enter.
- Support correspondence: messages you send us when you contact support.
Information collected automatically
- Device information: device model, operating system version, app version, language and region.
- Usage data: features used, screens viewed, crash and diagnostic logs.
- Network information: Wi-Fi network identifier (used only to verify household membership for shared plans, as described in section 4).
Information from third-party permissions
If you grant permission, we may access:
- Camera and Photos: to capture meal and ingredient photos for AI recognition. Photos are processed for nutrition analysis and stored only if you save the meal.
- Microphone: for the voice cooking assistant. Voice commands are processed to log ingredients; we do not retain raw audio after processing.
- Apple HealthKit: if you connect HealthKit, we read activity and weight data you authorize, and we may write nutrition entries you log. HealthKit data is never used for advertising or sold.
- Connected devices: Apple Watch, RingConn, Myzone, or similar — we receive only the metrics you authorize.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide the core features of the app: ingredient recognition, barcode lookup, meal logging, family nutrition tracking, recipe and meal-plan suggestions.
- Personalize goals and recommendations to each family member.
- Process subscriptions, free trials, and renewals through Apple's App Store.
- Send transactional notifications (e.g., subscription receipts, password resets).
- Diagnose problems, prevent fraud, and improve the Service.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. Household Verification
Family plans require all members to live in the same household. To enforce this, the app occasionally checks whether at least one household member's device is connected to your home Wi-Fi network. We store a hashed identifier of the network — not the network name or password — and we do not use it for any purpose other than household verification.
Household members may use the app anywhere; we only ask that any member connect from your home network at least once every 60 days.
5. How We Share Information
We share information only as described below:
- Service providers who help us operate the app, under contract to use the data only for our purposes. This includes Google Firebase (authentication and database), and AI vision and barcode-lookup providers used to process meal photos and packaged-food data.
- Apple, for in-app purchases and subscription processing. Apple's privacy policy governs that processing.
- Other family members in your household plan can see the profiles, goals, and meals you share with the family.
- Legal authorities, if required by law, court order, or to protect our rights or users' safety.
- In a business transfer, if FamilyPlate AI is acquired or merged, we will notify you before your information is transferred.
6. Data Retention
We keep account, profile, and meal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, or anti-fraud purposes. Diagnostic logs are kept up to 90 days.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Access and export: you can request a copy of your data by emailing privacy@familyplateai.com.
- Correction: you can edit profiles, goals, and saved meals directly in the app.
- Deletion: you can delete your account from Settings › Account, or by emailing us. We honor verified deletion requests within 30 days.
- Permissions: you can revoke camera, microphone, photos, HealthKit, and notifications permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
- Marketing communications: we do not send marketing email by default. If you opt in, you can unsubscribe via any email's footer link.
- California, EEA, UK residents: you have additional rights under CCPA/CPRA and GDPR (right to access, correct, delete, port, restrict, object, and not be subject to automated decisions). Contact us to exercise them.
8. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted storage of credentials, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.
9. International Transfers
FamilyPlate AI is operated from the United States. By using the Service, you consent to your information being processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
